BREAKING: IGP, MOHAMMED ADAMU ANNOUNCES DISSOLUTION OF SARS

Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has announced the dissolution of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS).

This comes after Nigerians all over the globe took to the streets and the media to protest against the exploitation, harassment, extra judicial killings, and extortion from operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS).

The Police Chief, who made the disclosure, during a live broadcast to Nigerians, on Sunday, October 11, 2020, stated that all officers serving within the unit are to be redeployed with immediate effect.

He said investigations will be conducted into the activities of FSARS with the collaboration of civil societies organisation while identified culprits within the force will be punished.

Adamu added that a new policing arrangement for tackling the offences of Armed Robbery.

Recall that on Sunday, October 4, 2020, the police chief banned operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) and other Tactical Squads of the Force, from carrying out routine patrols and other conventional low-risk duties.

Also, on Tuesday, October 6, he ordered the investigation of all recent cases of abuses of power and violation of rights by FSARS operatives and other tactical squads.
